Rent+ (“we”, “us”) runs research surveys and a waiting list on rentplus.africa. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you take part in our surveys or join the waiting list. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in line with South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) where it applies.

1. Who we are

Rent+ is a housing initiative focused on rethinking how South Africans rent. We are in a research and discovery phase. We are not yet offering rental or property products. Contact: hello@rentplus.africa.

2. What we collect

We may collect:

• Survey responses — Answers you give in our tenant or developer research surveys (e.g. housing situation, preferences, concerns, email if you provide it at the end of a survey).
• Waiting list sign-up — Email address and, if you choose to give it, your name when you join the waiting list.
• Technical and usage data — Such as IP address, browser type, and how you use the site (e.g. via analytics), to improve the site and understand usage. We do not use this to identify you personally for marketing.

Participation in surveys and the waiting list is voluntary. You do not have to give us any personal information, but we need at least an email if you want to join the waiting list or receive follow-up.

3. Why we use your information

We use your information to:

• Understand renter and developer needs so we can shape future products and services.
• Contact you about research updates or future pilot opportunities if you have joined the waiting list or given your email in a survey.
• Improve our website and surveys (e.g. via aggregated analytics).

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your survey answers or email for unrelated marketing.

4. Where we store your information

Survey responses and waiting list sign-ups are stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore) and related infrastructure. Data may be processed in or from outside South Africa. We rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. contracts and security measures) where required by law.

5. How long we keep it

We keep survey and waiting list data for as long as needed for research and to inform our product development, and to stay in touch if you have asked for updates. If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so within a reasonable time, except where we must keep it for legal or legitimate business reasons.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access — Ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Correction — Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Deletion — Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to legal or legitimate retention needs.
• Withdraw consent — Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from updates).

To exercise these rights, email us at hello@rentplus.africa. We will respond within a reasonable time. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator in South Africa if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

7. Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies and similar technologies (e.g. Firebase Analytics) to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Our analytics are used in an aggregated way and do not identify you personally for marketing.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site or participation in surveys after changes means you accept the updated policy.
